Science Investigation
This project was for the investigators to see if the amount of cornstarch would determine the difference of the outcome of the experiment which was in order to see the severeness of an allergic reaction.
Since some people are unfortunate enough to have an allergy to cornstarch the investigators wanted to research this topic. For the procedure, the investigators took to carry out this experiment that was fairly simple. First, the investigators acquired three 250 mL Erlenmeyer flasks and 450 mL of boiled water to pour in the flasks.
The investigators then labelled the flasks “A, B, and C”. Starting off at ⅛ tsp of cornstarch, cornstarch would be added to the three flasks increasing by ⅛ each time. After this 1 mL of yeast and 2.8 grams of sugar is then inserted in each flask, then the water will be poured. The investigators will record the results in 24 hours. After seeing this the balloon's circumference were almost the same ranging from 11 centimeters to 11.5 centimeters. This proved the investigators’ hypothesis incorrect, since it was made to be evident that the amount of cornstarch did not have a huge reaction. The investigators came to the conclusion that the amount of cornstarch does not affect the reaction, rather it just causes it. How severely allergic the person is to cornstarch is what makes the difference of the size of the reaction yet cornstarch is still causes the reaction. Something that the investigators should have done is to change the amount of cornstarch. They believe that if the amount of cornstarch is vary then the results will be different.
